The Las Cruces Museum of Nature and Science (MONAS) will offer STEM programs for children and families in August, the City of Las Cruces said in a news release.
Admission to the museum and programs are free.
Registration is not required for any of these events.
“Nature & Science Discovery PreK.” 10 a.m. Thursdays, Aug. 17, 24, 31. Nurture your little one’s love of science with an investigation of comets and asteroids through hands-on explorations, stories. and crafts Thursdays in August. Recommended for ages 2-5 with an adult caregiver.
- “Live Animal Feedings: Snakes.” 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12. For all ages.
- “STEAMpunk – Game Design.” 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12. Learn about Lizzie Magie, inventor of “The Landlord’s Game,” pre-cursor to “Monopoly!” Inspired by her development of this world-famous game, we’ll create our own board games. Recommended for ages 6 and older.
- “Bug Fest!.” 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19. There are more than 10 quintillion insects on Earth at any given time and every one of them serves a purpose! “Bug Fest!” participants can meet live insects, closely observe pinned insect collections, learn how to help pollinators and learn about insects as a food alternative.
- “FOSSILS!” 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Aug. 19. Explore the 3.5-billion-year odyssey of life with a geologist and real fossil specimens. Learn about ancient worms which lived millions of years ago.
- “Teen Science Café.” 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22. Students ages 11-17 are invited to have dinner with NMSU geology associate professor Brian Hampton, learn about geology and participate in a hands-on activity. Dinner and activity supplies are included.
- Animal Encounters – Chuckwalla.” 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26. Lean about an animal resident of the Chihuahuan Desert.
MONAS, 411 N. Main St., is accessible via RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1 Stop 1.
