Faculty Concert series kicks off, will feature artists from NMSU, El Paso and New York

The New Mexico State University Department of Music’s 2022 Faculty Concert Series opens with a chamber concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, in Atkinson Recital Hall in the NMSU Music Building, 1075 N. Horseshoe St. on the NMSU concert.

There is no charge to attend the concert.

The concert will feature artists from NMSU, El Paso and New York and include chamber music masterpieces by Joseph Haydn, Frederick Mendelssohn, Manuel Ponce and Joaquín Turina.

Here are the concert’s featured artists:

  • Cellist Mihai Marica from the Lincoln Center Music Society in New York;
  • Violinist Mari Lee, from the Carnegie Hall fellowship program;
  • Violinist Brigid McCarthy, concertmistress of the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra;
  • Pianist Laura Spitzer from the NMSU faculty;
  • Violist Elisabeth Greene, an NMSU alumnus; and
  • Violist Jorge Martinez-Rios, a member of the NMSU faculty, Grammy Award winner and conductor of New Horizons Symphony of Las Cruces.

“It will be a not-to-miss performance,” Martinez-Rios said.
