County Clerk's Office schedules election training sessions

The Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office is hosting trainings for election officials for the June 7 primary election at the County Government Center, 845 N. Motel Blvd., May 3-June 6.

Here are the training dates:

Early voting training: at 8 a.m. Tuesdays, May 3 and 17, and Wednesday, May 18;

Absent voter precinct board training: 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4;

Election day trainings: at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 23; Tuesday, May 24; Wednesday, May 25; Thursday, May 26; Friday, May 27; and Monday, June 6. There will also be a training at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28.

The trainings are open to the public.

Officials will receive training in opening and closing the polls, setting up voting equipment, issuing ballots and other election-related topics.

Election officials are paid for their service, including training. To be an election worker, you must be registered to vote in Doña Ana County; attend training; take an oath of office; have basic computer skills, a mobile phone and an email address; and not be a candidate, law officer or close relative (spouse, parent, child, sibling or in-law) of a candidate currently on the ballot.

The clerk’s office also uses student election clerks, who must be U.S. citizens, at least 16 years of age; have written permission from parent(s) or legal guardian, unless emancipated to be a student election clerk; and cannot be related to any candidate currently on the ballot.
