Las Cruces’ parks and recreation department announced that open registration for the fall youth cheer program opens July 18.

The program is open to all genders between the ages of 5 and 10,  per the city, with fees of $50 fee for new participants (jersey included) or $40 for returning participants (no jersey).

Registration requires proof of age, such as a birth certificate, or a parks and recreation activity ID card, and instruction begins the first week of August, according to a news release. Space is limited and enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.

In-person registration will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 18, or until the program reaches its capacity – a number that was not disclosed.

Registration will take place at Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E. Hadley Avenue.

To obtain a Parks and Recreation activity ID card, parents or guardians must appear in person with the participating child at Meersheidt to sign permission forms, show proof of age and have the child’s photo taken. ID cards can be obtained from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The city noted that the cards cannot be issued on registration dates. More information is available by calling Meerscheidt at 575-541-2563, or emailing athletics@lascruces.gov.
