Vintage Motorcycle Show in Silver City! The second annual High Desert Classic Motorcycle Show will return to Whiskey Creek Zocalo on Sept. 19 with events also on Friday and Sunday.
This one-of-a-kind event brings the vintage motorcycle community together to raise funds for the town of Silver City. All proceeds for the event will go to The Commons: Center for Food Security & Sustainability. Vintage motorcycles will fill the grounds of Whiskey Creek Zocalo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free. In addition to the vintage bikes there will be raffle prizes, vendors, food, and live music.
“Silver City is home to some amazing vintage motorcycles. It’s my goal that we can gather at Zocalo and raise some funds for our local food bank.” says event host Juliann Pokorny. Pokorny has worked with major international fundraisers for years but wants to bring money to her community. “I’m excited to work with local business owners to host this unique event in our beautiful town.”
Vintage bikes are not just for collectors and enthusiasts, dreamers and restorers, and lifelong gearheads. Bring the family and enjoy the beauty of these classic bikes and learn a little motorcycle history.
You will experience the art, the attitude, the life, and the legends of these fabulous machines and their owners. The bikes will range from fully restored classic motorcycles to “rat” bikes which are fun and functional, weathered bikes built with minimal cost, feature improvised repairs, mismatched parts, and raw, rusted aesthetics.
Motorcycle enthusiasts from across the Southwest and beyond will gather to showcase and admire a curated lineup of vintage motorcycles. From rare classics to scooters there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
The event kicks off on Friday with a group ride. Meet-up at Whiskey Creek Zocalo Friday morning at 9 a.m. for a scenic ride over the Black Range to Hillsboro for lunch. Friday night Zocalo will feature live music from 5-10:30 p.m. as part of its Rare Skies Event.
Motorcycle entries will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. There is a $10 entry fee for each motorcycle to join the judged portion of this Vintage Motorcycle Show. Pre-1995 motorcycles will be eligible for prizes. Categories include Best European Moto, Best Japanese Moto, Best American Moto, Best Rat Bike, Best Dirt Bike and Best Scooter.
Alex MacKenzie will lead the panel of judges. The show awards and raffles will begin at 1:30 p.m.. Silent auction prizes include a $250 Buckhorn Saloon gift certificate, $100 gift certificate at Mic’s 33, gift baskets from Ziryabs and Otter Chaos, gift certificate from Silver City Power Sports and much more. You must be present to win.
Enjoy music by Sweet Nothin RocknRoll Band 1-3 p.m. The event ends Sunday morning with a “Moto-Church” at Javalina Coffee House, 117 West Market Street, Silver City.
You may know Juliann as the Yarn Maven at Otter Chaos or as the welding instructor at Future Forge. But Juliann and partner Dan are also avid motorcycle collectors with twenty motos in their barn.
The duo is not new to motorcycle fund raisers. They were volunteers at Harvest Classic in Lucken, Texas which raised funds for children’s cancer research. When Harvest Classic ended after a 10-year run, Juliann and Dan were inspired to start their own fundraisers.
Juliann was Ride Host for The Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride in Austin, Texas. The ride benefited “Movember” raising money and awareness for men’s mental health and prostate cancer. Upon moving to Silver City and meeting the local vintage moto-heads they suggested starting a new vintage motorcycle event. The group decided to support a local charity, rather than a national one, and chose The Commons.
The Commons: Center for Food Security and Sustainability mission “has supported Grant County since 2004 through providing food security initiatives and volunteer and community engagement. Rooted in community-driven solutions, we provide resources like food distribution, community gardens, and educational programs. Together, we sow the seeds of sustainable growth and local self-reliance,” said board director, Ellen Pryor, “We are so grateful for the support of Otter Chaos and High Desert Classic.”
The Commons is located at 501 E. 13th St., Silver City, NM, and can be reached at 575-388-2988 or thecommonsgrantcounty.org
The Whiskey Creek Zocalo venue is just a few minutes from Silver City at 11786 US-180 E, Arenas Valley, and is known for a unique atmosphere with fresh wood-fired pizza, local beers, wine and spirits, nationally known bands, and an animal-filled garden paradise.
Zocalo recently completed an outdoor stage area and will be featuring a two day “Rare Skies Event” September 18-19, along with music during the motorcycle show. Visit their website to learn about the “Rare Skies” event and the burning of “Cholla Bolla”!
