Las Cruces UkeFest 2023 is Friday-Sunday, May 19-21, at the East Mesa campus of Doña Ana Community College, 2800 Sonoma Ranch Blvd.
Registration is $160, which includes the concert, workshops, jam session and Saturday lunch. The fee for students is $75. Visit https://lascrucesukefest.com/register/ and email lascrucesukes@gmail.com.
Here is the schedule for Ukefest:
6 p.m.: Registration begins
7 p.m.: Concert. Tickets are $10 for ages 13 and older and free for ages 12 and under. Performers will include The Smoking Jackets, a group of multi-instrumentalists who are also Ukefest 2023 instructors.
8:30 a.m.: Registration begins; vendors
9 a.m.: Welcome and orientation
9:30 a.m.: Workshops begin
Noon: Lunch and open mic
1:30 p.m.: Workshops continue
5 p.m.: Prize drawings
7 p.m.: Jam session/Open mic
8:30 a.m.: Ukulele Swap Meet opens (sell your “old” ukes, music books, Hawaiian shirts, etc.)
9:30 a.m.: Workshops begin
11:45 a.m.: Ukefest concludes.
Las Cruces UkeFest is hosted by the Las Cruces Ukes, a nonprofit comprised of ukulele enthusiasts in southern New Mexico. The club formed in 2013 and has given nearly 100 performances, conducted workshops and added a teen club.
Las Cruces Ukes practices Thursdays at Good Samaritan Las Cruces Village, 3011 Buena Vida Circle. Its Strum for Fun group meets 5:30-6:15 p.m., then the performance group practices 6:20-7:30 p.m.
