Silver City Gay Pride Returns

Posted

With a new leadership team, LGBTQ Grant County will stage an inclusive, intergenerational Pride festival that celebrates the best of Silver City.

From 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., Friday Sept. 8, Pride weekend kicks off with Little Toad Creek’s first ever drag show, featuring local and out-of-town talent.

Starting at 11 a.m. Saturday Sept. 9, events begin in Gough Park, located at 1200 N. Pope Street in Silver City. This event features a full schedule of talented entertainers, community advocates speaking about their work, more than 60 supportive local business vendors and sponsors, Silver City’s famous Doggy Drag Show – and so much more will all be back by popular demand. Ward Rudick’s famous $1.98 Show returns at 8 p.m. Saturday, at Whiskey Creek Zócalo.

On Sunday Sept. 9, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver City, newly recognized as a welcoming congregation, will host “Pride Not Prejudice,” exploring the history of Pride celebrations, and the current climate in the US for LGBTQIA+ citizens.

Volunteers are still needed from 8-10 a.m. Saturday at Gough Park to help with set up, and from 5-7 p.m. to help with strike. If you’re interested in being a vendor, there are still spots available. Sign up at  www.lgbtqgc.org.
