The Las Cruces Museum of Nature and Science (MONAS), 411 N. Main St., will offer free programs for children and families this July that include designing a game controller, watching live animal feedings, designing clocks and learning about javelinas.
Admission to the museum and programs is free. No registration is required for any of the events.
- Saturday, July 1, 10 a.m.: “Saturday Science – Makey Makey™ Lab.” Design your own game controller with everyday materials. Recommended for ages 6 and older with an adult caregiver.
- Saturdays, July 1 and 8, 11 a.m.: “Live Animal Feedings.” Turtles are fed July 1; Snakes are fed July 8.
- Thursdays, July 6, 13, 20 and 27, 10 a.m.: “Nature & Science Discovery PreK.” Investigate water through hands-on explorations, stories and crafts. For ages 2 to 5 with an adult caregiver.
- Saturday, July 15, 9 a.m.: “FOSSILS!” Explore the 3.5-billion-year odyssey of life with a geologist and real fossil specimens. Learn about sea stars and sea urchins that lived millions of years ago.
- Saturday, July 22, 11 a.m.: “STEAMpunk – Creative Clocks.” Learn about astronomer and inventor Benjamin Banneker. Inspired by his development of the first fully functioning clock, participants will design creative clocks. Recommended for ages 6 and older.
- Saturday, July 22, 11 a.m.: "Animal Encounters – Javelinas." Learn about this resident of the Chihuahuan Desert.
MONAS is accessible via RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1, Stop 1.
