Student filmmakers in the Las Cruces Public Schools are presenting their movies and seeing them projected onto a big screen in the second annual Tell the Story LCPS Film Showcase, the district announced Tuesday.
The show case began on Wednesday and continues Thursday at Allen Theatres’ Cineport 10, complete with a red carpet welcome for the filmmakers and guests. Over 80 entries were selected by judges scoring more than 200 submissions for story or plot, continuity, character development, entertainment value, creativity, editing, sound and lighting, directing and acting.
The district said the showcase will comprise two competitions: The 168-hour film competition exclusive to elementary and middle school filmmakers, in which the entire project is realized within 168 hours and incorporates a prop selected by the judges; and a similar 48-hour competition for high schoolers.
The red carpet event begins at 5p.m. in the lobby at Cineport 10 on both nights, with showtime at 6 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. The cinema is located at the Mesilla Valley Mall, 700 S. Telshor Blvd.
On Thursday only, the submissions for the two timed competitions will be shown.
