Electronic Caregiver and Higher Cultures, LLC, both based in Las Cruces, were awarded job training grants through the New Mexico Economic Development Department.
Electronic Caregiver received an award of $101,500 for 37 trainees under the Step Up program, to provide “upskill” training for current employees, according to a news release. Electronic Caregiver designs and delivers telehealth services and products.
Higher Cultures, a cannabis processing and cultivation company also involved in retail and wholesale sales, was awarded $33,656.40, according to the EDD, for five trainees under the Job Training Incentive Program, which reimburses employers on the completion of training. The company employs 60 workers year-round with seasonal jobs for over 40 more workers, the EDD stated.
The businesses were among five statewide awarded in a $1.3 million tranche of grants announced on Jan. 18. Last year, EDD Secretary Mark Roper said the JTIP program assisted 67 business in 16 of New Mexico’s 33 counties, for more than 1,200 jobs aiming to boost positions and wages.
