Kind Bread Company, a four-year-old bakery off S. Solano Drive, recently announced it would close July 27.
Owner and baker Samantha Kindred delivered the news in a video posted to Instagram on July 5. In the video, Kindred said that medical issues will prevent her from being able to focus on the bakery.
“It’s not a decision I made lightly, but to make sure I heal and take care of myself, that’s what has to happen,” Kindred said.
Kind Bread opened in 2020. It started when Kindred and co-founder Kaleigh Jones rented a kitchen in a local restaurant during off-hours.
Their enterprise survived the COVID-19 pandemic. Per reporting that year from the Las Cruces Bulletin, the business obtained its approvals to operate just two weeks before the public health crisis reached New Mexico and devastated retail food service among other industries.
The disease, which led to restrictions on public gatherings and closures of businesses, changed their business model, which had originally been to provide artisan bread to restaurants on a wholesale basis. The drop in demand led them to develop a storefront and a retail operation, the Bulletin reported, in addition to producing goods for sale at other eateries and markets.
The business focuses on naturally fermented sourdough bread and other baked goods, without using commercial yeast, and employs about 10 people, according to its website, KindBreadCo.com.
The business is located at 201 S. Solano Drive.
