Gospel Rescue Mission announces new ‘clothing barn’

Posted

The Las Cruces Gospel Rescue Mission announced that its former clothing room, which had been closed for a time, has been succeeded by a new clothing storage and distribution center to serve unhoused members of the community.

The “clothing barn” was made possible through a donation by a local family described as long-term supporters of Gospel Rescue Mission who donated use of a barn on their property. The Clothing Barn now has its own Facebook page and a post there lists a number of local agencies and nonprofits assisting with the initiative.

“The distribution system now works, instead of through one clothing room, through over 50 community partners … who distribute clothing to those in need,” the organization wrote in a news release. “Community residents can also make requests for clothing deliveries by means of Facebook Messenger. Clothes have also been distributed through a ‘mobile barn,’ hosted at churches.”

Donations of clothes and other items are received at the gate of Las Cruces Gospel Rescue Mission, 105 W. Amador Avenue, and receipts are available upon request. Items may be sold at the organization’s Rock of Ages Thrift Store, 1420 S. Solano Drive, to benefit the shelter; or distributed to the Clothing Barn. Clothes not suitable for wear are sold to a company for recycling as braided rugs, carpet padding and other uses, the LCGRM wrote. “Times are tough for many in our community, and LCGRM will continue its efforts to help clothe, feed, and shelter the neediest among us,” the Gospel Rescue Mission wrote.  More information and opportunities to support the mission are available via 575-523-7727 or online at lcgrm.org.
