Fiber Art Display at the Silver City Public Library

The Southwest Women’s Fiber Arts Collective has installed a Fiber Art display at the Silver City Public Library in the exhibit case at the top of the stairs. The display will be shown through Sept. 29 and showcases a variety of fiber arts made by members.

Some of the work represents the type of fiber arts that will be for sale at the Fall Fiber Arts Sale Oct. 10-11 in the ballroom of the Murray Hotel located on Broadway St. in downtown Silver City. Items for sale include hand knits, silks, yarn, tie-dyed garments, handwoven items, crocheted garments, baskets, quilts and quilted gifts, toys, jewelry and much more. The event will also feature fiber art education boards explaining different types of fiber art.

The members hope you enjoy the display. Each item is accompanied by a placard explaining the type of fiber art. SWFAC is grateful to the Silver City Public Library for hosting the display.

Members of SWFAC make many types of fiber art encompassing the manual manipulation of a variety of fibers by weaving, knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, basket making, and paper making to name a few of the techniques.

SWFAC was founded in 2005 and is a local, all volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the economic development goal to stimulate and support successful cottage industry in the southwest.

Both novice and skilled SWFAC artists enrich the community by nurturing and empowering one another, fostering opportunities to gain new experience, expand talent and earn income from their art. Visit SWFAC’s website at www.fiberartscollective.org to learn more about the organization.
