Chanukah on the Plaza will be celebrated 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at Plaza de Las Cruces.
Barbara “Mother” Hubbard will light the giant menorah and the City of Las Cruces will present a proclamation denouncing anti-semitism.
The free event is presented by Chabad of Las Cruces and Southern New Mexico and also features gourmet latkes and doughnuts, a live concert by Dan Bern, a chocolate gelt drop, Chanukah crafts, a gift shop, raffles and prizes.
This year, Chanukah begins Thursday, Dec. 7, and continues through Friday, Dec. 15.
Chanukah is the Jewish eight-day, wintertime “festival of lights,” celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods.
