“The 2025 World’s Greatest Horseman has been crowned, and this year’s title belongs to none other than Erin Taormino riding Hazardouz Material. With an impressive 884.5 composite score, Erin not only secured the championship but also became the first woman in history to win this prestigious title,” states “Cow Girl” magazine. She was riding Mimbres’ own quarter horse Hazardouz Material, owned by Linda Mars of Tres Osos Performance Horses.

The serene fields of the Mimbres Valley are home to a million-dollar mare, Shine Smarter, aka “Juliet” and her offspring. Many of these performance quarter horses began their lives at Tres Osos Performance Horses. Tres Osos is a breeding ranch tucked away in San Lorenzo, deep in the heart of the Mimbres Valley.

The ranch was the brainstorm of three dedicated horse lovers: Linda Mars, Paula Mize and Dave Mize. Paula and Linda had met in graduate school at New Mexico State University, working on their masters’ degrees in ruminant nutrition and equine nutrition; Paula went on to earn a PhD in Reproductive Physiology at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dave is a Mimbres native, growing up as a ranch kid, horse trainer, general contractor and the mastermind of the Tres Osos Ranch design.

Dave and Paula began breeding horses because they couldn’t afford the horses that they wanted to ride, and Linda came on board a few years later. The ranch was built in 2015 and in  2016 Tres Osos was founded.  The purchase of several daughters of Shining Spark was followed by Shine Smarter. With Dave’s extensive construction knowledge an amazing breeding farm was developed.

The ranch raises and trains reining, cutting, working cowhorses and rope horses with the finest bloodlines in the west ranching tradition of both show and working horses. Tres Osos is known for breeding horses at the top of their field.  All breeding at Tres Osos is strictly by artificial insemination.  State of the art  breeding techniques are combined with the love and dedication of the trio.

Erin and Hazardouz Material’s record making victory in the Reined Cow Horse World is the ultimate result of Tres Osos’s mission. According to “Cow Girl” magazine,“The World’s Greatest Horseman competition is known as one of the most grueling and respected events in the Western performance horse world. Riders must showcase their skills across four demanding events—herd work, rein work, steer stopping, and cow work—proving their ability to handle the pressure and versatility required to claim the coveted title. Erin’s victory with Hazardouz Material is a testament to her dedication, horsemanship, and competitive spirit. Breaking barriers and making history, she has paved the way for future generations of female riders in this elite discipline.”

For the second time Hazardouz Material appears on the May cover of “Reined Cowhorse News,” the monthly publication of The National Reined Cow Horse Association.
