The 2022 New Mexico Senior Olympics will be in Las Cruces later this year and the organization is gearing up for the big event.

The games will be held June 8-11 at New Mexico State University and at different city of Las Cruces venues.

The board of directors for the organization announced that the games will include 18 sports but they have added some events to the mix, such as mixed doubles in badminton, singles in pickleball and doubles in shuffleboard.

The registration deadline is May 15. Spectators will be allowed at the games and masks will not be required.

Signups can be done online at www.nmseniorolympics.org. Athletes can also call the state office and register by phone at 1-888-623-NMSO (6676).

Registration costs $60 for one to five sports. No pre-qualifying is necessary. Athletes, age 50 and older, compete in five-year age divisions and out-of-state senior participants are welcome.

The last time the state games were held was in 2018 in Albuquerque with more than 2,000 athletes. The state games were not held in 2019 because the National Senior Games were held in Albuquerque that year and the state games were not held in either 2020 or 2021 because of the pandemic.
