NMSU Theatre Department seeks two directors

The New Mexico State University Theatre Department has positions open for two visiting assistant professors: a scenic and lighting designer and a technical director.

Both positions close in July, with those hired expected to start in August, according to job descriptions on the NMSU website.

The scenic and lighting designer is expected to design sets and lights for all productions, collaborating with the production director and other designers; design/oversee procurement of/or creation of special set pieces or dressings; teach design classes and supervise qualified design students.

Requirements for the position include a degree in theatre or equivalent experience, and preferred qualifications include an ability to construct and paint scenery and mentor student designers. Applicants also should be able to lift up to 50 pounds safely, operate all shop machinery and climb stairs and ladders.

The technical director is expected to perform and delegate duties related to the construction, installation and strike of all Theatre Department scenic elements; take responsibility, along with the theatre manager, for all lighting, projection and rigging for each production; supervise student employees; be responsible for the department scene shop, equipment maintenance and keeping accurate inventory of shop tools and properties.

The technical director will be required to teach stagecraft and stagecraft lab and crew classes,  

have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and climb stairs and ladders.
