My footsteps defile
the creamy-white sand, so smooth,
like new-fallen snow.
Exploring on foot
a dry desert wash: for me,
a true winter sport.

A resident of Silver City, has been writing poetry since the sixties, and writing articles for periodicals since the eighties. They have written and published two books “so far”: The Joy Beyond Craving in 2003, and Over The Gender Rainbow in 2011. Joni says that writing “sometimes feels like a thankless task, but I still write now and then. Haiku appeals to the minimalist in me.”
