To quote Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra (LCSO) Music Director and Conductor Ming Luke, "What an exciting event! This is a wonderful opportunity to support the symphony and classical music in the community, but it'll also be a rollicking good time for everybody!  Hope to see you there!"

Luke is talking about “The Roaring 1920s Speakeasy” gala that will benefit LCSO, 6-10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road.

Participants are encouraged to wear flapper dresses and stilettos, gangster garb and wing tip shoes, said LCSO Board President Barb Ross.

Eventgoers will dance to the music of the Capones jazz band under the direction of LCSO principal trumpet player Pancho Romero. There also will be a card game with a 50/50 split cash prize.

For the event, a signature-cocktail competition has been set up with the following bars: Zeffiros,                Amador Patio Bar Grill, Hacienda de Mesilla, Double Eagle, Pecan Grill & Brewery and Hotel. The winning drink will be the featured “signature cocktail” sold at the gala’s cash bar.

Participants can bid on a large selection of silent-auction and live-auction items, including conducting LCSO and dinner with Luke, a wine tour with Lescombes Winery, a flight lesson and playing a bass drum representing a cannon during a LCSO rehearsal in May of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.”

“Not only is the gala an opportunity to raise funds to support our fabulous Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra and our outstanding musicians, but it will be a really fun and entertaining evening with a chance to dress up in the spirit of the 1920s, play a card game to win a cash prize, dance to live jazz music and bid on some great live and  silent auction items," Ross said.

Tickets are $55, which includes dinner.
