Keeping it Weird

Posted

Are you a collector of the offbeat and unusual? Is “weird” a collection criterion? The Oddities & Curiosities Expo may be just the thing for you. The largest international traveling oddities event showcasing hand selected vendors, artists and small businesses of all things weird will take over the El Paso Convention Center for two big days, Saturday and Sunday, March 8 & 9.

Available for sale at the event will be such items as taxidermy, preserved specimens, original artwork, antiques, creepy clothing, jewelry, animal bones, funeral collectibles and much more. If it’s weird, you’ll find it at the Expo. For those concerned about the legalities of owning items purchased from the show, the organizers maintain that all of the taxidermized and preserved animals are sourced from vet clinics, farms, or roadkill. You don’t get more sustainable than that.

Taxidermy classes hosted by the Sleeping Sirens will also be available for the hard core among you who want to unleash your creativity and curiosity. Designed for beginners, these hands-on courses offer a fascinating glimpse into the art and science of taxidermy. Saturday’s class will be a Jackalope, while Sunday will be beetles and spiders.

The convention runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the El Paso Convention Center, 5 Civic Center Plaza. Advanced general admission tickets cost $12 each day, and $17 if purchased on the day of the convention. Tickets for classes, which are available on Saturday or Sunday, each cost upwards of $150 and include convention admission. For more information visit the website at OdditiesAndCuriositiesExpo.com
