The Mad Hatter Gallery announced an upcoming exhibit of industrial waste transformed into works for art by artist Serjik Leon.
“Serjirism – The Industrial Art of Serjik Leon” will on view from Oct. 25 to Nov. 26, with an opening reception at 5 p.m. on Nov. 1.
The El Paso- and Ciudad Juárez-based artist will be featured in his first Las Cruces exhibition.
“Concerned about the problem of industrial waste, and envisioning a collaboration between waste and art, Leon founded ‘Serjirism,’ an art practice dedicated to utilizing manufacturing castoffs, primarily from El Paso and Juarez, to create light boxes illuminated by LED lights and using Surface-mount technology,” the gallery stated in a news release, adding that some of the light boxes are sound-reactive.
The Mad Hatter Gallery is located at 221 N. Main St., Suite C, in Las Cruces. The gallery’s hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday-Friday.; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; with extended hours on First Fridays and for other events.
