Fight hunger

Mountainview Regional Medical Center is holding its annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive to benefit Casa de Peregrinos Emergency Food Pantry to fight hunger in Las Cruces.

Peanut butter is a sought after item for food banks because of its high nutritional value and long shelf life. But it is one of the least donated items. The Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive will run through March 28.

MountainView collected more than 2,300 jars to benefit the food bank last year. This year, the medical center seeks to exceed that number.

To help:

• Donate jars of peanut butter. Glass jars cannot be accepted – only plastic jars. But all sizes are welcome.

Collection bins are set up at the following locations in Las Cruces:

-          MountainView Regional Medical Center, 4311 E. Lohman Ave., in the main lobby

-          Walmart stores

-          FirstLight Federal Credit Union locations

-          Nusenda Credit Union locations

• Make a monetary donation at casadeperegrinos.org/jars-of-love-peanut-butter-drive. A $5 donation provides two jars of peanut butter, or join the 10 Jar Challenge with a gift of $25.
