The rich and colorful history of “Mountain Pride” stagecoach is the subject of the next Culture Series lecture at New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum (NMFRHM), 4100 Dripping Springs Road.

Hillsboro Historical Society (HHS) board member Steve Dobrott will be the speaker. His lecture begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, in the museum theater.

Admission is free.

“In this slide presentation of historic photos from the archives of the Black Range Museum, Dobrott visually relates his extensive research on the famous old stagecoach that once ran the Lake Valley, Hillsboro and Kingston stage line 1889-1916,” the news release said. “The cast of characters includes J.W. Orchard and his wife, Sadie, who among others, were once co-owners of the stage line.”

HHS is hoping to work out a long-term loan agreement to have the stagecoach exhibited at the newly refurbished Black Range Museum in Hillsboro, NMFRHM said. The stagecoach is currently at Lincoln Historic Site in Lincoln, New Mexico.

Dobrott managed Ted Turner’s Ladder Ranch in south-central New Mexico for 24 years, the news release said. He stayed on to be the ambassador for Ted Turner Expeditions (now Ted Turner Reserves), an eco-tourism business, before retiring in Hillsboro.

NMFRHM’s Culture Series presentations are hosted by the Friends of the Museum.
