Members of the local arts community are helping raise money for the First Christian Church-operated The Pantry, which supports HIV survivors, according to a news release from Downtown Blues Coffee, 130 S. Main St., which will host the event, 1-4 p.m. Saturday, April 15.

Local poets, musicians, writers and visual artists who have become a part of the weekly “Les Salons Des Arts Divers” series at Downtown Blues “are lending their talents to help restock The Pantry shelves,” Downtown Blues said. Plus, “a very special silent auction” will offer unique items, all donated by local supporters of The Pantry. A king-sized hand-made quilt will be raffled.

For a suggested donation of $15, attendees can enjoy three hours of presentations “by some of Las Cruces' top artists of all stripes,” the news release said.

Presenters/performers will include KTAL-LP FM Radio's and salon co-host Teresa Tudury;  Las Cruces Sun-News columnist Cassie McClure; salon co-hosts Cleve and Sweet Mary; poets Jeffrey Field, Joe Somoza, Lizard King and Raquel Madrigal (also a salon co-host); educator, publisher and poet Tim Staley;  string quartet The Blazing Butlers; flutist Gary Badke; composer and premier pianist David Culbert; musicians Dan Crow and Karla Steen; and long-time The Pantry supporter musician Buddy Akin.

The Pantry, founded by the late Skip Rosenthal 15 years ago, is located within the First Christian Church, 1809 El Paseo Road.

The Pantry contributions may be made online at downtownbluescoffee.com.
