Rio Grande Theatre December includes classic holiday movies, local films, live doo-wop Xmas show

Rio Grande Theatre (RGT), 211 N. Main St., has a varied holiday lineup for classic movies and live performances during the month of December.

Here is what is on tap:

  • Saturday, Dec. 3, 8 p.m. (following the City of Las Cruces Christmas tree lighting across the street from RGT at Plaza de Las Cruces): “A Christmas Story.” Tickets are $5. This 1983 holiday classic stars Peter Billingsley as Ralphie Parker, who wants only a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 7, 7 p.m.: Film Las Cruces’ “The Wrap” monthly filmmakers hangout showcasing local films. No charge to attend; open to all.
  • Saturday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m.: “A Christmas Carol.” $5. This is the 1938 version, starring Reginald Owen as Scrooge, Leo G. Carroll as Jacob Marley and Gene Lockhart as Bob Cratchit.
  • Saturday, Dec. 17, 7 p.m.: “Doo-Wop Christmas. $15. Live performance with Las Cruces’ rock-and-roll “Oldies But Goodies” band. Songs performed will include “White Christmas,” “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,” “Little Saint Nick,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” “Feliz Navidad” and other popular favorites like “Locomotion,” “Goodnight Sweetheart,” “Runaround Sue” and “Why Do Fools Fall in Love?” For tickets, visit www.riograndetheatre.org/a-doo-wop-christmas-2.
