Folk duo performs benefit

Dec. 1 concert benefits St. Andrew’s Hospitality House

The Celtic and American folk duo For Shillings Short will perform a benefit concert 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at Rio Grande Theatre, 211 N. Main St. downtown.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit St. Andrew’s Hospitality House, which is in its “sixth year of providing temporary, no cost lodging to families of medical patients receiving treatment in Las Cruces,” according to www.standrewshospitalityhouse.org. 

Tickets are $20 for adults and $15.

Four Shillings Short is comprised of the husband-and-wife duo of Aodh Og O’Tuama from Cork, Ireland and Christy Martin from California, who have been performing together since 1995, according to https://4shillingsshort.com/bio.

The folk artists performing 150 concerts a year, the website said, and have made 12 recordings.

The “live as the troubadours of old traveling from town to town performing at music festivals, theatres and performing arts centers, folk and historic societies, libraries, museums and schools.”

Ground was broken to begin construction of St. Andrew’s Hospitality House in September 215, the hospitality house website said. Located on Alameda Boulevard in Las Cruces, the house “has four private rooms with bath and a shared kitchen and living area, according to its website. “One bedroom is handicapped accessible. The great room provides a fully stocked kitchen and dining area and family area with a large TV. The Hospitality House is non-denominational and open to all families in need.”
