DACC library to hold workshop on preserving family history

Doña Ana Community College’s (DACC) Library is hosting a series of workshops on how to preserve your family’s history.  

The first workshop, How to Preserve Your Family History, will be held Tuesday, October 4th from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. inside the DACC East Mesa campus, 2800 Sonoma Ranch Blvd., room 117 inside the Academic Resources Building. This workshop will be presented by Donna Wojcik from the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum.

Topics will include how to record and preserve the stories and words of family members, including what oral history is, why it’s important and how to get started.

The second workshop will also be held on Tuesday, October 4th from noon to 2 p.m. inside the Academic Resources Building at the DACC East Mesa campus in room 116. This workshop will cover Ways to Research Family and Local History. There will be a panel discussion by several individuals, Dennis Daily, NMSU Library Archives; Dr. Jerry Wallace, NMSU Professor & Specialist; Dr. Troy Ainsworth, Historic Preservation Officer & Specialist; Vicki Minnick, Thomas Branigan Public Library; Angelica Valenzuela, Doña Ana County Clerk's Office; and Jose Aranda, DACC Library as moderator.

Topics from this panel discussion will include property records, genealogy, tax records, correspondence, newspapers, maps, oral history, archives, paid sites, medical records, and birth and death certificates. For more information on these workshops, contact the DACC Library at (575) 528-7260.
