The Continental Divide Trail Coalition will host the 10th Annual Trail Days celebration in Silver City from April 18-20. This milestone event will mark its tenth year celebrating the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail (CDT) and the communities and landscape stewardship efforts across the Continental Divide. The 10th Annual CDT Days will feature three days of fun, education, and activities showcasing the 3,100-mile-long trail.
With a focus on the cultural significance and natural beauty of the trail, as well as sustainability and preservation efforts, CDT Days will feature a weekend of free activities, including a vendor festival, family-friendly performances, scenic guided hikes and stewardship opportunities on the CDT, outdoor-focused film showings, and a cultural speaker series at the historic Silco Theater.
The CDT is one of the world’s premiere long-distance trails, stretching 3,100 miles from Mexico to Canada along the Continental Divide. Designated by Congress in 1978, the CDT is the highest, most challenging, and most remote of the 11 National Scenic Trails. It provides recreational opportunities ranging from hiking to horseback riding to hunting for thousands of visitors each year.
Visitors and locals will have multiple opportunities to experience the beauty of the CDT landscape, explore rich cultural heritage, and celebrate collaboration and trail stewardship in southern New Mexico.
The event, which also serves as the kickoff of the hiking season for north-bound Continental Divide Trail hikers, starts on Friday, April 18, with a Community, Culture, and Landscape Speaker Series featuring subject experts at the Silco Theater. Events continue on Friday evening with the CDT Days Welcome Celebration with live music at The Little Toad Creek Brewery and Distillery.
Following on Saturday, enjoy a full day, family-friendly festival at Gough Park. The day will include vendor booths, activities for all ages, a free pancake breakfast, and prizes. On Saturday evening, soak up the night sky on a CDT Night Hike and Star Party.
Events wrap up on Sunday, April 20 with an Earth Day celebration, where attendees can connect with the Continental Divide Trail through hiking or stewardship.
