The Academy for Learning in Retirement’s (ALR) December 2022 series will focus on agriculture in New Mexico, ALR said in a news release.
Via Zoom, four experts will discuss the status, challenges and economic impact of agriculture in New Mexico and will assess the state’s signature crop, chile.
Presenters include New Mexico Sec. of Agriculture Jeff Witte; New Mexico State University Dean of the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences Rolando Flores; Jay Lillywhite, head of the NMSU Department of Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business and co-director of the NMSU Center of Excellence in Sustainable Food and Agricultural Systems; and Dr. Stephanie Walker, co-state coordinator for the Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program, and co-director, NMSU Chile Pepper Institute.

Registration for the December programming only is $20. Registration for all 16 ALR fall presentations will is $48. If you register for all the fall 2022 programming, you will receive recorded broadcasts of September, October and November presentations and can view December lectures live via Zoom.

ALR is a nonprofit started in 1992 by former NMSU President Gerald Thomas, along with retired deans Thomas Gale, Virginia Higbie, Flavia McCormick and others, including former professor and teacher Clarence Fielder.
