February 2010
February Is for Art Lovers
For the Love of Art Month romances the Mesilla Valley.
If it's February, it must be For the Love of Art Month in Las Cruces and Mesilla. For the last dozen years, members of ArtForms Artists Association have shared their love of art, displaying their work throughout the Mesilla Valley in galleries, museums, businesses and their own studios, which they open to the public during two weekends of studio tours.
This year's event kicks off with the opening of the annual ArtForms Member Exhibit at the Branigan Cultural Center on Friday, Feb. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. as part of the monthly Downtown Ramble. The Shannon Gallery will be filled with art of all forms through Feb. 27.
The annual studio tours are scheduled this year for Feb. 13 and 14, followed by Feb. 20 and 21. Artists at 28 locations will open their studios to show visitors where they create their work, discuss their techniques and offer art for sale. Some locations will include demonstrations, such as a raku firing on Feb. 13 at Brian Fallstead's studio. This is an opportunity to meet artists and learn the stories behind their work. Studios are open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. For more information, go to www.artformsnm.org
